Arrive Istanbul July 21

We were still at sea when we woke up this morning.
Heading for Istanbul leaving Athens far behind.

We arrived in the early afternoon.
The boat coming out to deliver the local captain who brings in our ship.

Seeing the blue Mosque from the water.

Another view from the water.

It is a big harbor.

We will dock along here and pass through customs.

Harbor view.

Looking across the Bosporus toward Asia Minor.

The first thing we did was get onto another boat to tour up and down the Bosporus strait.

Looking at our ship.

On the bus now and heading for the Grand Market.

Here is a view of an old viaduct as we roll along.

The Grand Market is big enough to loose yourself in but our time was limited to a short look. We managed to find some Turkish Delight and got enough to last a few days.

The market consists of a few main streets connecting the many gates like this one and then many minor streets branching off from the main ones.  It is all under a roof and is just row upon row of vendors stalls.

Looking down one of the main streets inside.

An old pole where the buses were parked.  The statue from the top has been either stolen or ruined and the outside covering of the pole, probably metal, is also gone.  It is the oldest post  Constantine built and was damaged in the war.

Back to the boat for a quick change and then off to see Istanbul by night.
Here is our group at a local restaurant where there were belly dancers and folk dancers to entertain through dinner.

Folk dancers.

This guy was pretty good.  He would find out what country somebody was from and sing a song from that country.  He sang Oh Canada for us, but some were well known songs.  The Chinese people seemed to really like what he sang for them.

Back to the boat tonight.  Tomorrow we have another excursion in Istanbul.
