Arriving in Vienna.
We had a city tour by bus on the Ringstrasse (ring road) on which can be found many famous old buildings.
Taking pictures from the bus is not always possible nor are they very good but I managed to get a few.
Here we are crossing a river and you can see a swimming pool below.
After seeing all the imposing palaces and residences encircling the medieval Innere Stadt (inner city) we enjoyed a walking tour.
Spires of St Stephan's Cathedral. We were inside but could not take pictures.
A guy driving a fiaker (tourist carriage) is passing our bus on the right.
I did like Vienna. It is a beautiful and clean city.
They gave us a page of types of coffee you could order to help us with ordering. The people of Vienna are very serious about their coffee. They are also famous for a cake called Sachertorte, which is a really good chocolate cake, and of course we tried that too.
I just snapped pictures of the buildings without knowing what they were. There were so many.
This is the arena where the Lipizzaner stallions are stabled and trained.
Carts in the stable.
The horses are black when they are born.
It was odd to see that Starbucks had a foothold in this already coffee centered world but they offer takeout coffee which you can't get from a restaurant.
Here is another instance of a monument from the plague years at which people prayed for the end of the illness.
There is a crypt under the street in front of this church which contains the bones of early religious figures.
They call this the golden cabbage.
We were back on the boat for supper and then went back into the city for a Mozart and Strauss concert. There are many concerts available every night here.
We enjoyed the fact that they seemed to have a lot of fun with their performance, much different from the slightly stiff and formal concerts you find in Canada. It is their music after all.
