The first direction I took found some interesting churches.
I wasn't able to get inside any of them.
Here is one of the fresh juice people on the street. She has an orange peeler as well as a press for squeezing juice from oranges and pineapples.
This is the Cathedral San Francisco, after which the square in front of it is named.
Small groups of demonstrators came by every now and then. The demonstrations were over the allocation of money between the various areas in the city.
The police presence was obvious.
So easy to walk down the street and cross.
Some camera men getting ready for a group of protesters coming their way.
The more mature protesters didn't march, they sat.
This is Plaza Estudiante. This and many other plazas were easy walking distance from my hostel near San Francisco Plaza.
.
Looking further down the street toward Plaza Isabel la Catalica.
Some street views as I walked back to the hostel.
The lovely park in the center of the street was really enjoyable with no traffic.
Nifty graffiti/sidewalk art!
This woman was just settling herself by this doorway to beg.
Restoring an old house that is dwarfed by the tall buildings on either side.
Some kind of school.
Round!
This statue is at the foot of the obelisk in memorial to the unknown soldier. The statue depicts a fallen soldier.
There are mountains all around and much of the city runs up as far as possible into them. Every street you look down has a mountain view at the end.
Yes its just a door. My passion.
Park scene.
Mountain view across the park.
The city is very modern and clean in the center but old ways can still be seen, like many street vendors and buildings made of red clay bricks.
Here is a vendor selling what I later found out was a peach infusion.
This was where they cooked the meat for a nearby resturant using a big BBQ which was open to the street.
Local police enclosure.
Wall art for kids.
Most of the streets are hilly.
This is my hostel, Select Comfort, just around the corner from a main street and a few blocks from Plaza San Francisco. I had the matrimonial suite which was on the front with a full wall of windows on the sunny side. It helped keep the place warm until the sun went down. After the first night of freezing cold I got a heater from the hostel and was all cozy thereafter.
It was an amazing location to be because everything in the old center was close by and walking distance.
This is another plaza called Plaza Murillo. They call it the city center but it is actually the center of government, the President and Vice President's offices are located here as well as other official buildings and a great many pigeons.
Still at Plaza Murillo.
A church on the same plaza.
I appreciated that the stones in the sidewalks were large, flat and easy to walk on.
Tomorrow I will spend the day with a friend, Mariana, who will show me more of the city.
